What is Re basing the Dentures?Submitted by admin on Sun, 05/09/2010 - 12:52 |
Re basing the dentures is also called jumping the dentures or jump case. Re basing the dentures is very
similar to a reline but the denture comes back with the reline and all of the pink plastic that is above the dentures, has been replaced. The teeth is
the only part that is original after the dentures come back from being re based.
If the denture as many different cracks, has been fixed many of time or it simply doesn't fit any longer. Then you have to the denture's re based, that
is only if the teeth them selves are still in good condition. Also, if the dentures are still in good condition.
The re basing is just like relining. After removing some of the plastic, then the dentist would be replacing it with this soft materials (that you can
think of putty that is soft). After it has been placed inside of the mouth, it would turn into this hard rubbery consistency. After it has been
removed, it will have the form of the gums. Then, the dentures would have to be sent to a lab for the impression can be replaced with hard acrylic that
is pink. The pink hard acrylic would be original to the impression material. Then the dentures would be returned to office for the patient can be fitted to make sure everything
is ok with the impressions. But instead of the same day service, like relining the dentures. It will take a little bit longer but not by much only by a
couple of days, to get the dentures back from the lab, after they are done re basing the dentures.
